Contemporary Children’s Portraiture…..

Capturing children in the moment!

Your kids don’t sit still for a minute, so why should they be any different when its time to get their portraits taken?  My latest venture as a photographer is to incorprate my contemporary shooting style into the world of children & family portraits.  It all starts with a comfortable location where kids can be kids- from living room to park or beach, my camera will then follow wherever they roam- capturing their true personalities from pouty to priceless, silly & stubborn.  Being a mother of two toddler sons definitely gives me a leg up- as I know the characters of most pop icons from Caillou & Dora the Explorer to Hannah Montana & the Jonas Brothers.  This makes for an instant connection that gets me on your kid’s turf….and gets big smiles too!  We make the session playful and interactive…the ultimate goal is to make everyone (but me!) forget we are there for “pictures.”  Family portraits can be a tiresome task- from planning outfits to showing up and crossing your fingers that each child smiles and doesn’t blink.  However, my contemporary style will eliminate the stress of the portrait session- giving families the freedom to have fun and be together…making true photo-worthy moments.

This past week was a wonderful session with an adorable brother and sister team, Nicko & Sophia- cute as can be and full of lively energy.  We shot their photos at the park in front of Jezebelles at the Art Center downtown, which was a perfect space for them to run around and make discoveries….all in all they barely noticed my big camera, and therefore we got some amazingly memorable photos of both children interacting with eachother and their surroundings.

The real fun for me was in the post-processing.  I took each image a step further incorporating texture & art effects, thus taking each photo back in time with a vintage feel- which further pulled the emotion out of each individual image.

Playdate with a photographer.  Christmas is around the corner, and I am already planning this year’s Christmas card.  That meand my kids are next….we will see if they are half as cooperative with MOM behind the camera as client’s kids are;)  That may be the truest challenge of my skill:)
